Horticultural Activities

Nature-Based Activities to Build Confidence, Wellbeing and Life Skills

Our horticultural programme provides our adults with the opportunity to develop confidence, wellbeing and practical life skills through hands-on gardening in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. Led by a qualified horticultural therapist, participants take part in a range of activities including planting, growing fruit and vegetables, harvesting crops, maintaining the garden and seasonal horticultural projects.
Working together in a calm outdoor setting encourages communication, teamwork, independence and responsibility while promoting emotional wellbeing and reducing stress. Nurturing plants from seed to harvest provides a sense of purpose, achievement and pride, helping participants build resilience and confidence at their own pace.
The fruit and vegetables grown in the garden are then taken back to the Kids Together centre, where they are used in cooking sessions to prepare healthy, nutritious meals. This allows participants to experience the full journey from garden to plate while developing valuable cooking, healthy eating and independent living skills.
